1) Pablo Picasso was a famous painter born on October 25, 1881, in Malaga, Spain.

2) Picasso’s first word was “lapis” which is Spanish for pencil.

3) His father, also being an artist, started teaching Picasso art when he was seven years old.

4) When he was nine years old, Picasso completed his first painting. It was titled ‘Le Picador’ of a man riding a horse into a bullfight.

5) When Picasso was 13 years old, his father quit painting because he thought his son was already a better painter than himself.
​
6) This artist achieved a lot while he was 13. It was at this age that Picasso also had his first exhibition in the back of an umbrella shop.
7) Along with painting, Picasso was also a sculptor, ceramicist, stage designer, poet, playwright, and print write.

8) Impressively enough, Picasso holds a world record for the most pieces of art created by one person. Over 78 years, he produced over 13,500 paintings or designs, 100,000 prints or engravings, 34,000 book illustrations, and 300 sculptures or ceramics. Picasso is less well known for his printmaking though it was one of his many talents.

Picasso created lithographs – prints using a stone plate, etchings – using chemicals on a metal printing plate, drypoints – drawing a design on a plate using a sharp needle, lino cuts and woodcuts.
Always searching for something new, he experimented a lot with these techniques. Some of Picasso’s graphic works are combinations of several techniques.
In 1905, Picasso created his first prints. More graphic works were produced in the early 1930’s. But most of his prints were created in the years after World War II.
Picasso often worked with the Atelier Mourlot, a renowned art publisher and print workshop in Paris. Pablo Picasso created about 200 lithographs from 1945 to 1949 with Henri Deschamps, a professional printmaker.
Today, Picasso’s prints are highly sought after by art enthusiasts across the globe.
